Message belt itself. I've had to remove t-belt covers on engines before which had various numbers of miles since rebuild and there really isn't all that much dust. I would expect to clean them somewhere around 5K mile intervals or so but removing them is really simple. Probably just pull them off for cleaning around the same times the Mothers polish comes out to dress the polished aluminum parts under the hood.
